Slow Flow with Sonia – Episode 1
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Singer, composer and entrepreneur Supriya Nagarajan welcomes Sonia into the heart of her home — a red sandstone house in the north of England where a temple has occupied the corner of the dining room for nearly two decades, sacred chanting playing continuously, day and night.
Born in Mumbai and trained from the age of five in Carnatic vocal music, Supriya’s journey took her from a career in accountancy at a major bank to founding her own musical company, Manasamitra. In this rich, wide-ranging conversation, she reflects on faith, music, and what it means to live a soul-aligned life.
In this episode, Sonia and Supriya explore:
– The Hindu philosophy of karma and the “cycle theory” of life
– What it means to distinguish need from want, and the Brahmin ideal of non-attachment
– Supriya’s experience of synesthesia: how she tastes music, smells in shapes, and sees ragas as colour
– Seeing auras: the gift and the burden of sensing what others feel, and when to act on it
– A shared prayer practice and the 108 names of the goddess
– The single most important practice Supriya has cultivated: trusting your instinct and how to start small
“Trusting your instinct… If you consciously start doing it for the first few years, then unconsciously it’ll start to flow.”
